Binka Le Breton is a writer, environmentalist and human rights activist. Her latest book is Where the Road Ends: a Home in the Brazilian Rainforest She has authored numerous other books, including The Greatest Gift: The Courageous Life of Sister Dorothy Stang; Trapped: Modern Day Slavery in the Brazilian Amazon; and Voices from the Amazon.
Le Breton is currently working with partners in Brazil and the US to develop a feature film based on the life of sister Dorothy Stang. With her husband Robin, Le Breton founded the Iracambi Research Center in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. Iracambi’s work on the front line of conservation and development is founded on their successful lobbying to set up a new county in an isolated mountainous area where there were few schools, no effective health care, no communications and little hope for a better future. Iracambi works with the local community to establish the first environmental education program in the area, spearhead a campaign to help family farmers understand and respond to the issues involved in a proposed large mining project, establish a program of biodiversity conservation and rural enterprise generation, and involve hundreds of foreign and Brazilian students in its work of saving forests and changing lives.
