The Iranian Political Crisis: Duke and UNC Perspectives

The June 2009 Iranian presidential election sparked demonstrations, violence, and persistent calls for democratic reform in Iran. This is a panel discussion about the elections and the protests that followed. On the panel are Mark Emamian, Duke Department of Physics; Mohsen Kadivar, a visiting scholar and cleric from Iran in the Department of Religion; Charles Kurzman, an Iran expert at UNC’s Department of Sociology; and Negar Mottahedeh, from Duke’s Literature and Women’s Studies Departments. The panel will be moderated by Timur Kuran, a professor of Economics and Political Science at Duke.
