JessicaJessica Van Meir is a junior majoring in Public Policy and Women’s Studies with a minor in Psychology. She is passionate about social justice and human rights, particularly women’s rights.  Jessica’s project will examine the differences in conditions for sex workers in Latin American countries based on whether brothels are legal or illegal. She will conduct a survey of civil society organizations across Latin America about sex work conditions in their countries. She will also conduct case studies of Ecuador, where brothels are legal, and Argentina, where they are illegal, relying upon interviews with sex workers’ collectives, anti-trafficking NGOs, law enforcement, and, when possible, sex workers themselves.
